Northfield Conservation Group Seeks "Commission" Status

One of the wonderful things about living in Northfield is the quintessential small-town feeling and the immediate access to the great outdoors. Just out your backdoor are hiking trails up to Paine Moutain, fishing on the Dog River, and incredible views of the unspoiled Green Mountains.

If you're like me you're interested in preserving the character of our small towns and our natural environment. Trish Coppolino and others are taking action to ensure the long-term viability of Northfield's open spaces and the preservation of its natural wonders. And, they're leading outdoor tours and experiences to acquaint folks with the often overlooked natural wonders in our own backyard(s).

One of the things Northfield Democrats hope to accomplish is to ensure a successful vote granting the Northfield Conservation Cooperative its "commission" status on Town Meeting Day in March. This will help the organization to procure grant funding for its activities and be recognized as a permanent part of the town's working infrastructure.

If you would like to find out more about the NCC, contact Trish Coppolino. She can add you to their listserve, and get you updates on future activities and announcements. As we get closer to March, 2008 I will be providing updates on how you can help to secure the NCC's "commission" status. I hope you'll get involved with this worthy effort.
